Reading | Life after Life, by Kate Atkinson. I pre-ordered this when it came out in 2013 (I think?), and I’m just now getting around to reading it. Dumb Elizabeth. I do not want to put this book down. At all. It may be the first time in my months of living here that I wished my metro ride was longer. I started it on a flight last night, and I’m already 350 pages in. At the same time, I want to slow down on reading because I don’t want it to end. What’s a girl to do?
Dreaming about | warm weather! It has been just cold in DC since 2015 started; I don’t think it ever got above freezing at all last week? I knew I was moving to a colder place than Atlanta, but jeez, I was not anticipating this. We had a few inches of snow last week, and it definitely made my commute a little rougher. I even wore snow boots for the first time in my life! I was in Miami for work Sunday-Tuesday, and it was 80 degrees there. 80 degrees, while DC was having snow flurries and ice delays. It was not that much fun getting back.
Thinking about | going back to school. I know, I know. I’m crazy for even considering it, but hear me out. My law degree is all well and good, but I don’t use it in my day-to-day life in public health and government work. I don’t really need any more student loan debt (trust me), but if I want to progress further in my chosen field — and I do — I need to go back to school. I’m looking at all kinds of options, from a Masters to a DrPH or even a Ph.D.
Waiting for | Disney World! I am woefully unprepared for the Princess Half (Liz and I plan on race-walking it in our adorable costumes, thank you very much), but I’m so excited to have time off that isn’t tied to holidays or a wedding! (This doesn’t mean that I don’t love going to my friends’ weddings — I’m going to New Orleans in a few weeks for one, and I couldn’t be more thrilled). We’re planning on expo’ing, pool’ing, park’ing, and of course, running.
Listening to | all the podcasts! I’m so #basic that of course I listened to Serial — and no, I can’t decide whether or not Adnan did it — which opened up an amazing world of podcasts that I didn’t know existed. I listen all the time that I can, mostly on my commute or while walking Taffy. Some favorites include Amicus, Invisibilia, MuggleCast, Spilled Milk, and Stuff You Should Know. If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments!
Mantra’ing | I love a good mantra, and this one posted by Janeetha on her instagram has really stuck with me. I mentioned that one of my goals for this year is to be happier and healthier, and I like the reminder of choosing to be happy. I am incredibly blessed in a lot of ways, and I need to be better about keeping that in mind when dealing with small annoyances.
